The Seattle Times - Customer Case Study

The Seattle Times, the family-owned news media company behind seattletimes.com, needed a more flexible and scalable way to run its digital publishing platform. After struggling with a hosted solution that limited agility and couldn’t handle traffic swings well, the company turned to AWS Lambda and other AWS services to support its migration to a modern cloud-based architecture.

Using Amazon Web Services, The Seattle Times built its site on AWS infrastructure including Amazon VPC, EC2, EBS, RDS, S3, CloudFront, ElastiCache, and AWS Lambda for image resizing. AWS helped the newsroom deploy the new system in just six hours, automatically scale for traffic spikes, speed up image processing by creating multiple sizes in parallel, and reduce maintenance overhead while improving reader experience.
