Bustle - Customer Case Study

Bustle, the Brooklyn-based media company behind Bustle.com and Romper.com, needed a better way to scale its growing site and reduce the operational burden on its engineering team. The monolithic architecture was difficult to expand, and server management, automation, and monitoring made it harder for engineers to focus on building front-end features. Bustle turned to AWS Lambda, along with related AWS services such as Amazon Kinesis Streams and Amazon API Gateway, to address these challenges.

Using AWS Lambda, Bustle built a serverless backend for real-time metrics processing and for parts of its website and mobile apps, including Romper.com. The team also created its own deployment tool on AWS Lambda and API Gateway to streamline testing and releases. As a result, Bustle eliminated infrastructure management for many workloads, kept its engineering team lean, and reported about 84% cost savings while scaling with far less operational overhead.
