A AWS Lambda Case Study
Autodesk, a global software company serving architecture, construction, engineering, manufacturing, and media industries, was using AWS but struggled with a slow, manual account-creation process. New AWS account requests took about two weeks, updates had to be made one account at a time, and the team wanted a simpler way to scale without adding more maintenance overhead. Autodesk used AWS Lambda as part of its AWS cloud environment to address this bottleneck.
Autodesk built “Tailor,” a serverless account-provisioning solution using AWS Lambda, Amazon API Gateway, and Amazon DynamoDB. With AWS Lambda automating the workflow end to end, Autodesk cut account-creation time from two weeks to about 10 minutes, reduced provisioning cost from about $500 to just under $6 per account, and lowered monthly operating costs to a little over $100 across three AWS Regions. The AWS Lambda-based approach also improved security visibility, standardized configurations, and helped Autodesk adopt a serverless-first strategy for new projects.
