SolarNow Builds an IoT Solution Using Eseye and AWS to Provide Customers in East Africa with Secure Access to Solar Energy

SolarNow is a for‑profit social business providing solar products and financing across East Africa (over 35,000 customers since 2011). The company faced limited visibility into deployed systems — short battery life, inefficient panel use, and the need to remotely monitor and optimize devices — so it sought secure, scalable IoT and cellular connectivity. SolarNow engaged AWS IoT (using services such as AWS IoT Core and AWS IoT Device Defender) alongside APN partner Eseye to address these challenges.

Eseye deployed its AnyNet Secure SIM for global cellular connectivity and integrated lifecycle management and certificate delivery with AWS IoT Core and Device Defender, enabling secure OTA provisioning, anomaly detection, and automated suspension of compromised SIMs. Using AWS IoT, SolarNow’s 150‑unit pilot in Uganda produced real‑time usage insights, faster customer response, improved device longevity and performance, and a foundation to scale predictive analytics (Amazon Kinesis and ML) for broader operational and business impact.
