Case Study: Bayer Crop Science achieves real-time seed and field analytics in minutes with AWS IoT

A AWS IoT Case Study

Preview of the Bayer Crop Science Case Study

Bayer Crop Science Drives Innovation in Precision Agriculture Using AWS IoT

Bayer Crop Science, a division of Bayer and one of the world’s largest agricultural companies, needed faster, real-time access to sensor data from harvesters and research fields. Their prior process required manual transmission to data centers and took several days, which hindered QA/QC, equipment calibration checks, and routing adjustments. To solve this, the company moved its data-collection and analysis pipeline to AWS IoT, specifically using AWS IoT Core for high-throughput message processing.

Using AWS IoT (including AWS IoT Core, with plans to adopt AWS IoT Analytics and AWS Greengrass), Bayer Crop Science built a scalable pipeline that ingests multiple terabytes and about one million seed traits per day and delivers data to analysts via mobile dashboards in minutes instead of days. The AWS IoT solution improved visibility into temperature, humidity, and soil conditions, enabled faster corrective actions and QA to meet SLAs, and set the foundation for edge processing, anomaly detection, and predictive maintenance as IoT initiatives scale.
