A AWS IoT Case Study
AbiBird, a division of ATF Services, provides infrared home sensors and a smartphone app that use NB‑IoT to help elderly people live independently. Facing stability and scalability problems with a Microsoft Azure backend that generated about 62 support tickets, AbiBird moved its infrastructure to AWS IoT—including AWS IoT Core—and other AWS services to achieve the reliability needed to scale to millions of devices.
Two Bulls rewrote and migrated AbiBird’s backend to a microservices architecture on the AWS platform, using AWS IoT Core for device messaging, AWS Lambda for the message‑ingest pipeline, Amazon ECS with AWS Fargate for APIs, and Amazon SNS/DynamoDB for distribution and storage. The move to AWS IoT eliminated all support tickets (cutting them from 62 to 0), reduced support overhead, accelerated product development (AbiButton and AbiWander), and delivered a scalable, globally expandable solution.
