Boehringer Ingelheim Establishes Data-Driven Foundations Using AWS to Accelerate the Launch of New Medicines

Boehringer Ingelheim, the global pharmaceutical company, needed to break down data silos and standardize enterprise-wide data solutions while maintaining strict compliance and flexibility. Working with AWS, it launched a company-wide data transformation initiative called Dataland, built to make data findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable in the cloud, with AWS Glue helping integrate and prepare data from multiple sources.

Using AWS services including Amazon S3, AWS Glue, AWS Professional Services, and GxP Compliance on AWS, Boehringer Ingelheim created a centralized self-service data hub and strong governance framework. The result was faster access to data—from months to hours—more than 10,000 employees reached by the solution, over 3,000 employees upskilled through its Data Science Academy, and improved compliance, all helping accelerate use case development and shorten clinical trials.
