Case Study: World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) achieves broadcast-quality, scalable live pay-per-view streaming with AWS Elemental

A AWS Elemental Case Study

Preview of the WWE Case Study

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) brings complex pay-per-view productions to online viewers using AWS Elemental Live

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), a global multimedia company that reaches millions of viewers and generates large pay-per-view audiences, needed to extend its premium live events to the web. Encoding WWE’s fast motion, rapid scene changes, elaborate lighting and pyrotechnics at low bitrates for paid online viewers presented a real-time quality and reliability challenge that existing CPU-based encoders struggled to meet.

WWE deployed Elemental Live, a GPU-accelerated live encoding platform with advanced deinterlacing, noise reduction and a proprietary H.264 codec, to produce multi-bitrate adaptive streams and integrate with Brightcove/Akamai for delivery. The solution preserved broadcast-quality video at low bitrates, supported multiple formats and devices (including HD and mobile), reduced hardware (replacing eight encoders with two Elemental systems), and delivered reliable, uninterrupted pay‑per‑view streaming.
