TVNZ migrates 6PB of archive content with AWS Elemental

Television New Zealand (TVNZ), New Zealand's largest broadcast network, faced significant operational challenges with its on-premises tape archive infrastructure, including high maintenance costs, slow content retrieval, and the risk of content loss. To support its digital transformation, TVNZ partnered with AWS Elemental and Vizrt to migrate and modernize its media asset management (MAM) system and content archive.

The solution involved using AWS Elemental MediaConvert to transcode nearly 6PB of content for storage in Amazon S3 and S3 Glacier, managed by the Viz One MAM platform. This provided TVNZ with a highly durable, scalable, and cost-effective archive. The migration, accelerated by AWS Elemental's parallel processing capabilities, unlocked faster content access, enhanced searchability, and laid a foundation for future innovation in delivering personalized viewer experiences.
