SonyLIV Grows Subscriber Base Tenfold and Enhances Streaming Platform Supported by AWS

SonyLIV, the Indian streaming platform, wanted greater control over video quality and the flexibility to manage content in-house as it scaled, while also improving the viewing experience for its users. Born on the AWS Cloud, SonyLIV worked with AWS to relaunch its platform and build new cloud-native capabilities, including support for multiple devices and efficient streaming for a large mobile audience.

AWS Elemental MediaConvert helped SonyLIV transcode 60,000 hours of video into multiple output formats, upscale content to HD, and optimize delivery for different network conditions. As a result, SonyLIV improved video consistency across devices, expanded OTT device support from 15 to 20, and grew its subscriber base tenfold, while also focusing on lower exit-before-video-start, faster start times, and reduced rebuffering.
