CBS Interactive’s GameSpot, the world’s most-visited gaming site (about 12 million monthly uniques), needed to deliver live high-definition coverage of E3 to a global audience while also creating fast-turnaround on-demand video. The team faced tight timing, high quality expectations, and the need for mobile/CDN support and efficient archiving so VOD highlights could be published with minimal delay.
GameSpot replaced its existing workflow with Elemental Live to encode 720p H.264 streams and simultaneously write archive files using the Smart Archive feature, allowing real-time start/stop/pause and eliminating a separate editing step. The result was uncompromised video quality, rapid posting (over 45 hours and 300 videos uploaded across three days), easier CDN integration, and effective monetization via ads, embeds and social features.
