Case Study: Channel One Russia delivers multiscreen Olympic coverage with AWS Elemental

Elemental Video Processing Selected by Channel One for Sochi 2014 Winter Games

Channel One Russia, the country's largest broadcaster, needed to deliver multiscreen coverage of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics to a vast audience. The challenge was to process and stream nine channels of live and time-shifted programming to a wide array of devices over IP networks.

AWS Elemental (then Elemental Technologies) implemented its Elemental Live video processing platform to address this. The solution successfully streamed content in 12 Adobe HDS H.264 profiles to set-top boxes, PCs, iPhones, Android devices, tablets, and smart TVs, providing high-quality video to an estimated 250 million viewers across Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. This built on previous success with AWS Elemental during a major interactive broadcast with President Putin.
