5 runs three live pop-up events from a browser with AWS Elemental MediaLive

The customer, a UK-based free-to-air broadcaster known as 5, faced the challenge of running temporary live pop-up events without the high fixed cost of dedicated hardware and personnel. They needed a solution that would allow a single remote operator to manage an entire live event, including monitoring, input switching, and graphics, directly from a web browser using AWS Elemental MediaLive.

AWS Elemental implemented a browser-based console that leveraged the MediaLive schedule API to control the entire event pipeline. This solution allowed one operator to run events from anywhere, successfully delivering three pop-up events. The approach eliminated the need for dedicated hardware, reduced operational overhead, and ensured infrastructure costs directly matched the duration of each event.
