A AWS Elemental Case Study
The customer, a major UK broadcaster known as 5 and part of Paramount, faced operational overhead and reduced resilience from a complex dual-pipeline packaging architecture for its multi-platform delivery. This system, which used a third-party packager with AWS Elemental MediaStore and AWS Elemental MediaPackage v1, required duplicated encoding resources and manual failover mechanisms. The impending end-of-life for MediaStore added urgency to finding a new solution from vendor AWS Elemental.
AWS Elemental implemented its MediaPackage v2 service to create a single, unified packaging pipeline. This solution provided native support for all required formats, automated failover, and enhanced features like accessibility signaling and SPEKEv2 DRM. The results were significant: 5 decommissioned eight EC2 instances, five MediaLive channels, and the entire MediaStore and third-party packager infrastructure, leading to reduced costs and improved operational resilience while expanding to new platforms.
