Climate engaged Awario to quantify how much voice climate change skeptics have on social media by comparing pro‑ and anti‑climate hashtags. Facing a diffuse, global conversation, Climate needed a clear, data‑driven picture of where #climateaction and #climatehysteria were being used and which countries and U.S. states had the largest or most concentrated skeptic presence.
Awario ran a three‑month hashtag listening study tracking specified #climateaction and #climatehysteria tags worldwide and across U.S. states, measuring unique authors, authors per 100K inhabitants, and skeptic share. Key findings: the U.S. had the largest volume (42.2K unique authors), Iceland led per capita (67/100K), South Dakota led U.S. per capita (115/100K); North Macedonia showed the highest skeptic share (14.29%) while Canada had over 10% skeptics; in the U.S. Nevada (14%), Oklahoma (12%) and Louisiana (11.24%) had the largest skeptic shares and Hawaii just 1%. Awario’s insights gave Climate clear geographic benchmarks to prioritize outreach and monitor shifts in public sentiment.
