A AVST Case Study
The University of Toronto, Canada’s largest university with three campuses, nearly 11,000 faculty and staff and 72,000 students, needed to modernize its communications without disrupting daily operations. Key requirements included centralizing messaging across campuses, replacing a legacy Octel voicemail system, ensuring continuous 24/7 uptime, minimizing retraining for thousands of users, and supporting multiple on‑prem and cloud email environments while protecting past IT investments.
After a five‑month evaluation the university selected AVST’s CX-E and consolidated the platform into a private‑cloud deployment at its St. George data center with a System Server and survivable Call Servers at each site. The solution centralized services to Scarborough and Mississauga, handles roughly 450,000 calls a month with 300 automated attendants, delivered unified messaging across diverse email systems, minimized retraining by mirroring familiar Octel controls, and reduced total cost of ownership while providing the required scalability and high availability.
