Chicago Department of Transportation efficiently manages utility dig projects to reduce costs and right-of-way interruptions with ProjectDox

The Chicago Department of Transportation needed a new electronic plan review platform after its previous solution was discontinued. Rather than using it for traditional permitting, the department needed a system that could fit its process for managing utility dig projects, integrate with its permitting solution, and connect to the map used by its Project Coordination Office.

Avolve Software’s ProjectDox provided the digital workflows, markup and comparison tools, reporting, and integrations CDOT required. With ProjectDox, the city added its Project Coordination Office as a reviewer and said this helped realize almost $24 million in potential savings in 2022, while also reducing underground utility damage to 0.49 hits per thousand, compared with the national average of 1.67.
