The City of Apple Valley, Minnesota, sought an electronic plan review system more than five years ago to replace a paper-based process. Its previous method involved physical handling and storage of large plan sets, which created disorganization, communication challenges, and delays for the city of about 55,000 citizens.

The City selected Avolve Software’s ProjectDox as its all-in-one digital plan review solution for planning, engineering, utilities, natural resources, fire, and inspections. Avolve Software says the system streamlined communication and workflows, improved prioritization and turnaround, and helped enforce review windows with automated timestamping, including cases where applicants had plans for 2-3 months while the city had them for only a total of two days; it also prevented plan stamping when comments remained unresolved, helping protect building safety and collect the proper permit fees.
