Whistler Blackcomb, North America’s largest ski resort near Vancouver, faced an outdated, largely analog surveillance system that couldn’t keep up with monitoring 8,000+ acres, 100+ buildings, millions of annual visitors and thousands of employees. The resort needed a high-performance, scalable video solution to ensure guest and staff safety, protect assets and reduce retail and rental theft.

Working with integrator BMS Integrated Services, Whistler Blackcomb deployed Avigilon’s ACC 5 management software with HDSM, 100+ Avigilon HD cameras (1–5 MP), analog encoders, ACC Mobile and NVRs to store 30 days of footage. The upgraded system delivered rapid search and playback (searches now take under a minute), improved incident response and safety, enabled successful theft identifications and prosecutions, proved cost-effective, and is planned to expand further—projected to help recover about $250,000 in product annually and lower liability and insurance costs.
