A Avigilon Case Study
The Timmins Police Service, which serves about 40,000 residents across 1,145 square miles, needed a city‑wide surveillance solution to improve public safety and provide "extra eyes" in high‑traffic and hard‑to‑cover areas. The challenge was to deploy a scalable, reliable system that could integrate with the city’s existing fibre network and deliver usable evidence for faster investigations.
Timmins deployed Avigilon Control Center with HDSM and a mix of 16 MP and 5 MP HD cameras to monitor downtown, major roads and intersections, parks and key municipal buildings, with two officers managing the system and up to 14 days of footage stored on five servers. The rollout leveraged existing infrastructure, is cost‑effective (comparable to the annual cost of three officers), reduced investigation times from weeks to days, is expected to improve conviction rates and lower court costs, and can be scaled to additional municipal sites.
