Merced College, a two‑campus community college serving about 11,000 students, faced rising campus safety concerns and found its legacy analog PTZ surveillance inadequate for identification and proactive monitoring. Administrators and campus police needed a more reliable, easy‑to‑use system to protect students and staff and to support timely investigations.

The college deployed Avigilon’s high‑definition surveillance solution—Avigilon Control Center with 16 MP, 11 MP and 5 MP cameras plus analog video encoders—storing up to 30 days of onsite footage and monitoring from control rooms on both campuses. The upgrade delivered dramatically improved image clarity, faster investigations (from days to minutes), numerous successful case resolutions, reduced crime, and the ability to leverage existing analog cameras while transitioning to a full HD system.
