A Avigilon Case Study
The Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF), a 600‑person research arm of Novartis based in San Diego, needed to protect sensitive research technology and intellectual property across its 260,000 sq ft, open‑campus environment while supporting worldwide collaboration. Its legacy analog surveillance was cumbersome and impeded fast identification and video retrieval.
GNF deployed an Avigilon hybrid high‑definition system—12 analog encoders to retain 48 existing cameras, one 2 MP IP camera, Avigilon Control Center with HDSM, NVRs and multiple monitoring stations—allowing seamless integration with existing infrastructure. The upgrade produced sharper images (license plates readable beyond 200 ft), cut video review time by 75% (30 → 3 minutes), reduced space and power needs, preserved legacy investments, and delivered up to 66% savings on new camera costs.
