Georgia Tech Police Department - Customer Case Study

The Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD) manages access to more than 1,800 doors across a 400‑acre campus but was hampered by a legacy, proprietary physical access control system that required vendor‑locked hardware, workstation‑only administration, and continual Windows server maintenance and patches. These limitations reduced IT and security team productivity and made it difficult to scale or integrate with campus identity systems.

GTPD worked with ICE Automation Group to deploy Access Control Manager Virtual in its VMware environment, replacing proprietary controllers with open hardware and a 100% browser‑based platform. The solution synchronizes with Georgia Tech’s identity management, enables role‑based partitioning by building or schedule, streams camera video, and eliminated standalone server overhead. After a 60‑door pilot, GTPD began broader rollouts, gaining easier administration, lower cost and improved reliability.
