A Avigilon Case Study
Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), Iowa’s largest community college with multiple campuses and tens of thousands of students and staff, needed to prevent unlawful activity and boost campus safety across a sprawling, previously analog-based surveillance footprint. The college faced challenges monitoring high-traffic areas, parking lots and sprawling facilities with unreliable, hard-to-manage systems and wanted a solution that was simple, scalable and effective.
DMACC deployed Avigilon Control Center with HDSM, 45 Avigilon HD cameras (1–16MP) and 25 analog video encoders to modernize existing cameras, enable remote monitoring and store 30 days of footage. The system lets staff find events 10× faster and view real-time video, met image-quality needs, reduced infrastructure costs by 15% (saving about $12,000/year in licensing), and has helped resolve liability claims, improve traffic flow and ensure campus maintenance while providing a scalable platform for future growth.
