A Avigilon Case Study
The New Bedford Housing Authority (NBHA), which manages roughly 2,500 public housing units across 19 properties and serves thousands of residents, needed to improve safety after recurring petty crimes exposed the limits of its aging analog video system. Old cameras had large blind spots, low-resolution footage that was rarely useful as evidence, high maintenance costs, and unreliable wireless transmission to central storage.
NBHA deployed Avigilon’s platform—Avigilon Control Center, Unusual Motion Detection, Appearance Search, H4A cameras and local HD NVRs—installing 173 cameras with partners to create a scalable, centrally managed network. The solution cut video-review time, produced clear, court-ready evidence, improved police collaboration, deterred crime, and reduced costs and downtime by using local recording that tolerates ISP outages, earning strong resident support.
