City of Vancouver, British Columbia - Customer Case Study

The City of Vancouver and the Vancouver Police Department needed broad, real-time situational awareness to maintain public order and safety during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games while protecting free speech and privacy. They required 24/7 monitoring of key downtown corridors and seamless coordination across municipal, provincial and federal agencies to manage large crowds and potential incidents.

Vancouver deployed an Avigilon end-to-end high‑definition surveillance system—5MP, 11MP and 16MP cameras, domes, PTZs, analog encoders and Avigilon Control Center with HDSM—connected via the city fibre backbone and monitored from EOC and VPD workstations with up to 21 days of storage. The solution delivered clear, real-time situational awareness, faster response times, improved interagency communication, strategic resource deployment and cost savings, while offering scalable, flexible management for future events.
