City of Selma - Customer Case Study

The City of Selma, a regional government center in Alabama, sought to make community safety a priority by better protecting residents, workers and visitors after finding its old analog surveillance unreliable and unable to scale. With budget constraints and a need for improved coverage—particularly at City Hall, police headquarters and the George Washington Carver (GWC) housing complex—the city set out to reduce crime and improve incident response.

Selma deployed the Avigilon high-definition surveillance system with Avigilon Control Center NVMS and High-Definition Stream Management, installing more than 30 HD cameras (3–5 MP) and analog video encoders to create a cost-effective hybrid system monitored 24/7. The upgrade delivered clearer images, faster investigations and lower maintenance costs, and the city reports a 75% drop in criminal reports while preserving scalability and reuse of existing infrastructure.
