The City of Kelowna, BC, a regional hub of about 150,000 people, faced recurring vandalism at the Mill Creek Flood Protection site and serious safety risks at the Okanagan Rail Trail encampment (fires, hazardous heating devices and vehicle incidents). These threats put critical infrastructure and vulnerable residents at risk and required faster, more reliable incident detection and investigative evidence.

Kelowna deployed Motorola Solutions’ Avigilon Unity suite — 33 AI-powered H5A thermal, multisensor and bullet cameras plus Avigilon Unity Video VMS — to boost monitoring and alerts. The solution improved situational awareness, deterred further vandalism at the flood site, captured key evidence of a vehicle attack, enabled early fire detection, and cut first-responder times from 15 minutes to 4 minutes.
