Billings Public Schools (BPS), the largest district in Montana with 31 schools, 1,800 teachers and over 17,000 students, faced persistent challenges with vandalism, graffiti and bullying that made risk mitigation and student safety a top priority. The district sought a scalable security solution to deter incidents and improve its ability to investigate and respond quickly.

BPS piloted Avigilon’s complete surveillance solution at Riverside Middle School—H4 cameras with self-learning video analytics, Avigilon Control Center software and Appearance Search—to enable fast searching, verification and response. Within seven months the system helped reduce vandalism, graffiti and bullying, sped investigations (resolving fights and identifying perpetrators), supported after-hours monitoring and accountability for damages, and prompted plans to standardize the solution across the district.
