Case Study: Alabama Power achieves faster threat detection and integrated AI-driven surveillance with Avigilon

A Avigilon Case Study

Preview of the Alabama Power Case Study

Avigilon Solutions are Fueling Alabama Power's Innovative Security

Alabama Power, part of Southern Company and the primary electricity provider for the southern two-thirds of Alabama, serves 1.4 million customers from more than 300 locations. With thousands of distributed substations and crew sites, the security team faced persistent risks — trespassing, vandalism and theft of copper and equipment — that threatened worker safety, regulatory compliance and reliable service delivery.

To address this, Alabama Power deployed a centralized Motorola Solutions Video Security & Analytics system built on Avigilon technology: roughly 4,000 cameras (H4 series), 200+ servers and Avigilon Control Center, fully integrated with existing access control. Self-learning analytics and Unusual Motion Detection cut false alarms, replaced legacy sensors, and shortened event assessment from many minutes to under a minute, enabling rapid response and multiple on-site arrests; the scalable solution is now being expanded across Southern Company utilities.
