Case Study: American School for the Deaf achieves proactive, ASL-readable campus security with Avigilon

A Avigilon Case Study

Preview of the American School for the Deaf Case Study

A One of a kind school needs a security solution like no other

The American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, CT — a landmark Pre-K–12 institution serving 150 students with 250 staff and operating day, residential and 24-hour PACES programs — needed a modern security solution. Its legacy video system lacked campus-wide coverage, real-time alerts and sufficient image quality to read American Sign Language, making it hard for staff to monitor student safety and respond proactively.

Partnering with American Total Protection, the school installed a Motorola Solutions Avigilon Video Security & Analytics system with 200+ cameras, multisensor models, new servers, Avigilon Control Center, Appearance Search, Unusual Motion Detection and Avigilon Access Control Manager. The upgrade delivered faster, user-friendly monitoring, accurate ASL-readable video, integrated alerts from legacy sensors, and centralized access control—enabling quicker responses, better supervision of residential and PACES programs, and improved overall campus safety.
