A Avigilon Case Study
Port Discovery Children’s Museum, a 80,000 sq ft downtown Baltimore attraction serving over 200,000 visitors a year, faced mounting security challenges: outdated video and access-control systems made it difficult to quickly locate missing children, prevent unauthorized access (including an intruder theft), and provide usable footage to law enforcement amid nearby crime, loitering and homelessness. Staff needed a reliable, easy-to-use solution to protect children, employees and visitors across three floors and multiple entry points.
The museum deployed Motorola Solutions’ Avigilon Alta suite—39 cloud-connected AI cameras (Ava series), Alta VMS with Cloud Connector, and Alta cloud access control with 27 Standard Smart Readers—installed Oct 2023–Feb 2024. The new system cut time to find lost children from five minutes to about 90 seconds, enabled delayed egress and remote access management, delivered loitering and after-hours alerts, and produced high-quality evidence praised by police, overall strengthening onsite safety and investigative capability.
