Avid Takes to the High Seas Aboard Princess Cruises

Princess Cruises, a leading cruise line with a fleet of luxury ships, needed to upgrade the aging analog audio systems in its Princess Theaters and secondary entertainment venues. The company wanted better sound quality, a smaller equipment footprint, and a more consistent workflow for the many audio engineers who rotate across the fleet, so it turned to Avid Technology and its Mix Rack Systems with Profile System consoles and Avid VENUE software.

Avid Technology implemented the new systems across five theaters and two additional venues, giving Princess Cruises built-in effects, snapshot automation, USB show-file portability, and Virtual Soundcheck capabilities. The result was a major improvement in sound quality and flexibility, faster onboarding for engineers, and easier show management across ships; Princess Cruises said the system has been “a huge improvement” and “an excellent choice” for maintaining production quality.
