Avid System 5-B Powers Production at CBC Vancouver

CBC Vancouver, part of Canada’s largest radio broadcaster, faced the need for a highly reliable, flexible production console for Studio 1 that could support everything from small jazz ensembles to large orchestras, while handling both live recording and broadcast post-production. To meet these demands, CBC turned to Avid Technology and its System 5-B digital mixing console.

Avid Technology implemented the System 5-B in Studio 1, giving CBC Vancouver dynamic Mix Automation, Machine Control, and strong hardware redundancy in a 56-fader format. The installation enabled the station to produce projects such as the Dal Richards and Friends CD and the Vancouver International Jazz Festival content, while also preparing the studio for more live cultural recordings. CBC reported benefits including excellent sound quality, quiet mic preamps, intuitive operation, and a “bulletproof” setup, and the installation became CBC’s seventh Avid system nationwide.
