Avid Powers the Epic Soundtrack for Slumdog Millionnaire

Slumdog Millionnaire’s sound team at Sound 24 faced the challenge of turning noisy on-set recordings from India into a clear, emotionally rich soundtrack that captured the energy and chaos of Mumbai. With Avid Technology’s Pro Tools-based audio workflow, supervising sound editor Glenn Freemantle and his team had to manage multiple layers of dialogue, effects, Foley, and music across a fast-changing edit.

Avid Technology’s Pro Tools HD systems, ICON D-Command console, and surround tools enabled seven editing rooms to work seamlessly, quickly conforming new picture cuts and coordinating pre-mixes. The result was a highly detailed, immersive soundtrack built from hundreds of layers, helping the film achieve its creative vision and supporting award-winning recognition, including a BAFTA win and Academy Award nomination for sound.
