Avid Helps Introduce Dolby Atmos to Audiences

Dolby Atmos needed to introduce a new cinema sound format in a way that was simple for audio professionals while preserving creative flexibility. Working with Avid Technology, Dolby relied on a Pro Tools-compatible workflow so mixers could adopt the system without leaving familiar tools, including the Dolby Atmos Panner plugin and related RMU setup.

Avid Technology helped deliver a seamless Pro Tools/Dolby Atmos workflow that let mixers control up to 128 audio objects and automate stems more efficiently, while the RMU supported up to 64 discrete speaker feeds for precise sound placement. The result was rapid market adoption: within one year, more than 40 film titles had used Dolby Atmos and about 200 screens worldwide had installed the system, with over 20 post-production facilities already equipped for the workflow.
