Creating The Library Of Tomorrow

North Carolina State University wanted to redefine what a library could be with the James B. Hunt Jr. Library, creating a 250,000-square-foot research and collaboration facility rather than a traditional book repository. The university needed a flexible, cutting-edge technology environment to support brainstorming, critique, presentations, distance learning, and shared research across campus and with external partners, and turned to AVI-SPL for help with the AV/IT challenge.

AVI-SPL integrated collaboration technologies throughout the library, including video conferencing, AMX control systems, Biamp audio distribution, Christie projectors and MicroTiles, Cisco digital media and TelePresence, SMART Podiums, and Sharp displays. The result was a highly versatile, IP-based facility with collaboration rooms, an auditorium, a gaming lab, an immersion theater, and a creativity studio that can be reconfigured into multiple smaller spaces; the centralized AV/IT design also made the system easier for one person to operate and maintain while supporting 24/7 use.
