A AVI-SPL Case Study
Florida International University’s Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management wanted a world-class restaurant management lab that would give students hands-on experience and a competitive edge in the hospitality job market. To help meet that goal, AVI-SPL worked with FIU, the architect, and other trades during planning and construction to design a collaborative AV environment for the restaurant, kitchen, and bar spaces, using video collaboration and integration services.
AVI-SPL implemented 18 Panasonic PTZ cameras, Polycom video conferencing, Crestron control systems, Sharp displays, Chief mounts, and recording/streaming tools to connect students with remote culinary schools in Ireland and China, support distance learning, and allow instructors to monitor and annotate student activity in real time. The result was a highly interactive learning lab with 24/7 surveillance capability, flexible expandability, and a standout digital media deployment that helps FIU distinguish its hospitality program.
