A Hospitality School Distinguishes Itself With Video Collaboration

Florida International University’s Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management wanted to expand its Restaurant Management Lab with a restaurant, kitchen, and bar that would give students a competitive edge through hands-on, technology-enabled learning. AVI-SPL worked with FIU, the architect, and other trades to design a collaborative AV environment using video conferencing, control systems, displays, and integration services.

AVI-SPL implemented 18 Panasonic PTZ cameras, Polycom video conferencing, Crestron control and capture systems, Chief mounts, and Sharp displays to support live instruction, remote collaboration with culinary schools in Ireland and China, recording, and streaming. The solution helped faculty monitor student performance, enabled distance learning and guest interaction, and provided a scalable infrastructure for future expansion.
