Cairns Water, the municipal utility serving 145,000 people in Cairns, Australia, faced an aging, unsupported SCADA system at its Southern Treatment plant (which treats sewage for about 60,000 residents) and a geographically dispersed network of 40 pumping stations. To modernize and ensure 24/7/365 monitoring, Microsoft-platform compatibility, and scalable control across its water and wastewater network, Cairns Water engaged AVEVA and implemented the Wonderware software suite including System Platform, InTouch HMI, Historian and SCADAlarm.

AVEVA’s Wonderware solution, deployed with system integration, centralized remote control and real‑time data collection, trending and alarm notification. The upgrade delivered faster response times, better environmental compliance and more consistent effluent quality, enabled power reductions, reduced on‑site travel by engineers, and provided a scalable standard for roll‑out across the entire Cairns Water system.
