Wonderware Software Reduces Waste and Justifies Investment for Calabria Water Resources

Società Risorse Idriche Calabresi (So.Ri.Cal.) is the regional water utility for Calabria managing an extensive, geographically dispersed network. Faced with large discrepancies between water sold (270 million m3/year) and estimated production (310–315 million m3) and lacking real-time visibility to identify leaks and overflows, they engaged AVEVA to deploy a Wonderware solution including Wonderware InTouch HMI, Wonderware System Platform and Wonderware Historian.

AVEVA’s Wonderware implementation centralized supervision and remote control across 200 aqueduct systems, four dams, 10 derivation crossbars, 14 wastewater plants, 300 lifting stations and nearly 1,000 tanks, delivering real-time data to operators, automatic alerts, and historian-based reporting. The solution enabled immediate interventions (e.g., stopping pumps when tanks are full), reduced waste and energy use, improved maintenance response times, and produced immediate ROI in the pilot phase, with a plan to roll the AVEVA solution out across the entire network.
