Wonderware Software Helps HIP Plant Profit through Improved Process Control and Proactive Maintenance

Bodycote, a hot isostatic pressing (HIP) plant that processes high‑value parts for jet engines, turbines, automotive and medical applications, faced inconsistent furnace temperatures, no historical data or useful reports, calendar‑based maintenance schedules, and operator variability that led to costly product re‑runs. To address these challenges Bodycote adopted AVEVA’s Wonderware software suite — including System Platform, InTouch HMI, Historian, ActiveFactory and SCADAlarm — to gain real‑time visibility, historical reporting and recipe control.

AVEVA’s Wonderware solution enabled condition‑based, proactive maintenance and centralized monitoring, so fewer operators can do more work and equipment is serviced when performance — not the calendar — indicates need. The result was improved run‑to‑run consistency through programmed recipes, better decision‑making from reports, reduced product run‑wrongs and re‑processing (as noted by Plant Engineer Shawn Crawford), and more predictable capital planning and resource savings.
