Wonderware SCADA Solution Provides Ease of Use, Quick Payback and Expansion for New Water Treatment Plant

City of Thunder Bay needed a reliable SCADA solution for its new Bare Point Water Treatment Plant to expand daily capacity from 14 to 25 million gallons, integrate an existing pumping station and dozens of remote PLCs, and ensure safe, environmentally responsible "lake to lake" water management. AVEVA supplied a Wonderware-based system—including InTouch HMI, Wonderware Historian, ActiveFactory and SCADAlarm—through local integrator Automation Now to meet those monitoring, control and reporting requirements.

AVEVA’s solution was deployed on redundant Windows servers, logging over 5,000 points and bringing the plant online within a year. The system delivered real-time reporting and historical trending that reduced downtime, improved maintenance, increased operational efficiency and cut future remote-station development time by about half; the project achieved return on investment within two years.
