Lonmin Mining faced fragmented “islands” of control systems across its Marikana and Brakpan operations, which made it hard to reassign staff, standardise processes, and scale operations. To address these challenges Lonmin Mining selected AVEVA, deploying AVEVA System Platform along with Historian Clients and InTouch to centralise operations, data and standards across the mine.

AVEVA implemented a redundant System Platform architecture (including Historian Clients, dual viewing stations and application servers) to enable live updates with minimal downtime and unified data access. The AVEVA solution delivered measurable impact: prevented potential losses of more than a million Rand an hour, realised R300 million in annual savings, boosted operational efficiency by 10% and improved product quality and system reliability for Lonmin.
