Westshore Terminals, North America’s leading export coal facility in Delta, BC, needed to replace an end‑of‑life legacy control system while increasing material‑handling efficiency, improving data access to mitigate risk, and adding a state‑of‑the‑art playback capability — all with zero downtime. Westshore partnered with AVEVA and deployed Wonderware System Platform together with InTouch HMI, Historian and ActiveFactory to modernize SCADA/HMI, MES and historical data management.

AVEVA (with integrator QCA Systems) implemented a plant‑model architecture that automated Historian data capture, enabled real‑time playback for root‑cause analysis, and gave operators faster access to field data for collaboration and productivity gains. The cutover was seamless (systems ran in parallel with only about 15 minutes of changeover), helping Westshore sustain throughput up to 29 million tons annually, support shipments to ~24 countries and contribute more than $2 billion to the Canadian economy each year.
