A AVEVA Case Study
The City of Boise needed to meet stringent EPA/DEQ rules to remove 98% of phosphorus from treated water while dealing with irrigation runoff that reintroduces phosphorus and disparate proprietary control systems across sites. To standardize operations, improve maintainability, and avoid costly upgrades to existing plants, the City of Boise adopted AVEVA’s solutions, notably System Platform for visualization and control and Historian for data reporting.
AVEVA deployed System Platform and Historian to centralize SCADA, apply reusable engineering standards and object‑based templates, and enable remote monitoring and maintenance across sites. The Dixie Drain facility now removes up to 140 pounds of phosphorus per day (roughly 10 tons per year) and about 8,000 tons of wet solids annually, achieving about 50% more phosphorus removal than a traditional upgrade approach and a lower cost per pound removed; AVEVA’s platform also supports the 1.5:1 downstream removal benefit cited by the City of Boise.
