Specialty Sugar Producer Retains Cost-Competitive Edge with AVEVA

Hawaiian Commercial and Sugar Company, Maui’s largest raw sugar producer, faced pressure to maintain cost-competitiveness against larger mainland companies and substitutes while improving plant efficiency for its specialty sugar lines. To further optimize operations and enable better plant-wide visibility, the company engaged AVEVA, deploying solutions including InTouch HMI, Historian and Historian Clients (with plans to extend to System Platform) to modernize its plant intelligence and data access.

AVEVA consolidated separate HMI and historian applications into a single three-tier system, giving the InTouch HMI access to 30,000 tags (up from 17,000) and enabling real-time, site-wide and remote access to operating data. This integration improved interdepartmental communication, allowed faster operational adjustments (e.g., water use and cane-pressing pressure), increased efficiency and production, and delivered measurable business benefit through greater visibility and improved profitability enabled by AVEVA’s solution.
