Xcellerex, developer of the FlexFactory biomanufacturing platform, needed to integrate single-use technology, controlled-environment modules, process automation and electronic batch records into a unified, highly functional system to meet growing demands in biopharma and vaccine production. To achieve this, Xcellerex partnered with AVEVA and deployed Wonderware System Platform along with Wonderware InTouch HMI, InBatch and Historian as the automation and information backbone.

AVEVA’s Wonderware suite provided reusable object-oriented templates, SCADA/HMI/MES functionality and a high-performance historian to standardize applications, speed validation and simplify change management. The AVEVA-enabled FlexFactory delivered measurable impact: development time dropped nearly 60%, deployment was shortened from 3–5 years to roughly 12–18 months (enabling production 2–4 years sooner), capital investment fell by more than 60%, facility footprint by ~40%, water/waste by 85%, cost of goods by 32%, and rework time by about 80%.
