Port of Portland Marine Maintenance Department incorporates AVEVA solution

Port of Portland’s Marine Maintenance Department, which supports terminals, airports and marine facilities that move more than 30 million tons of cargo annually, faced fragmented maintenance systems (a COBOL system, an over‑the‑road trucking package and a homegrown system) that didn’t suit cranes, dredging barges or airport assets. After a formal RFP process the Port of Portland selected AVEVA and implemented Avantis.PRO Enterprise Asset Management to provide a single, scalable CMMS/EAM platform.

Using AVEVA’s Avantis.PRO the port consolidated asset hierarchies, introduced detailed employee and work tracking, automated replenishment and just‑in‑time ordering, and built preventive maintenance libraries. The AVEVA deployment reduced inventory in the electric and equipment shops by at least 65%, saved about $250,000 from crane PM changes in the first year, improved accountability and trend analysis, and delivered enough operational savings to more than pay back the $2.1M project cost.
