Pepsi Bottling Ventures - Customer Case Study

Pepsi Bottling Ventures (PBV) of Garner, North Carolina — the #1 Pepsi bottling plant in North America producing over 30 million cases a year — needed a reliable enterprise platform to replace subjective, paper-based downtime tracking, measure Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), justify future capital projects, and deploy across one new Direct Blow Fill (DBF) line and four legacy lines. After evaluating options, PBV selected AVEVA (AVEVA MES Performance) for its flexibility and ability to integrate with both legacy and new equipment.

AVEVA implemented an MES-based performance and downtime tracking solution with downtime-code propagation from machine centers to line level, real-time visualization across the plant, and tools for analyzing filler runtime and OEE. The system enabled PBV to pinpoint causes of downtime, drive line efficiencies, support sustainability goals (reducing waste and carbon footprint), and quantify investment opportunities — delivering an estimated total payback of 2.8 years while supporting production of over 30 million cases and expansion from 189 to more than 500 products.
